Expert Tips on Caring for Cut Flowers.

1. Clean Vase:

Start by ensuring the vase is clean and free from any bacteria. Wash the vase with soapy water, rinse it well, and add fresh water. This helps prevent the growth of harmful microorganisms that can shorten the lifespan of the flowers.

2. Trim Stems:
Before placing the flowers in the vase, trim the stems at an angle. This increases the surface area for water absorption, allowing the flowers to stay hydrated. Use sharp scissors or shears to make a clean cut and remove any leaves that will be submerged in water.

3. Water Quality:
Use room temperature water to fill the vase. Avoid using very cold or hot water as extreme temperatures can shock the flowers. For optimal hydration, change the water every two days and trim the stems at an angle each time to ensure continued water uptake.

4. Flower Food:
Providing flower food can help nourish the blooms and extend their freshness. Most florists include packets of flower food with their arrangements. If not, you can recommend a homemade solution of sugar and a few drops of bleach to help inhibit bacterial growth.

5. Placement:
Keep cut flowers away from direct sunlight, heat sources, and drafts. Display them in a cool area to prolong their lifespan. Avoid placing them near fruits or vegetables, as these release ethylene gas, which can cause the flowers to age faster.

6. Regular Maintenance:
Remove any wilted or spent flowers from the arrangement promptly. This prevents the production of ethylene gas and keeps the remaining blooms looking fresh. Replenish the water and trim the stems as needed to ensure the flowers stay hydrated.
